FACT: Vehicles or items with a heavy weight will compact the asphalt even further leaving an indentation in the asphalt. Instead, don’t park in the same spot every time. Distribute the wear evenly across your asphalt. For items such as a trailer, place the hitch on a piece of wood so it does not leave an impression.
FACT: Asphalt driveways are constructed for ordinary vehicles, not industrial or construction equipment. Heavy trucks will put a strain on your asphalt and over time you will notice severe cracking. Commercial asphalt lots are constructed to withstand the heavier vehicles.
FACT: Asphalt pavement will not be completely puddle free. Some areas may have puddling due to shiftings in the sub-base.
FACT: Any vegetation gathering around the edges of your asphalt will work their way into the asphalt base and eventually through your asphalt surface.
FACT: A snowplow blade can gouge your asphalt so have the plow operator lift the blade slightly to avoid the scratching and/or gouging.
FACT: New asphalt should be left for the first 48 to 72 hours to finish curing, longer in the hotter summer months.
FACT: You may notice cracks along the edge of your asphalt if you drive over the edges of your asphalt. As with anything, the edges are the weakest point.
FACT: Your vehicle tires can cause gouges if you turn them when the vehicle is not in motion. This is caused by the power steering. Instead turn your steering wheel once the vehicle has started in motion.
FACT: The darker your asphalt, the quicker snow and ice will melt in the winter months, thus reducing your snow/ice removal costs and time.
